The Barreau de Montréal invites you to explore our judicial institutions during this open house.
Numerous activities will take place throughout the day at the Montreal Courthouse (10 Saint-Antoine Street East) and at the Quebec Court of Appeal (100 Notre-Dame Street East), which will also welcome the public for the occasion.
ℹ️ Avoid prohibited items and travel light to quickly pass through the security checkpoints at the Courthouse and Court of Appeal. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early.

Schedule of the day
Free Legal consultations are offered in French and English while most activities are presented in French.

Guided tours of the Courthouse
Guided tours of the Montreal Courthouse will be organized throughout the day with regular departures. Registration is available on-site.
Two tours will be offered : the first will allow visitors to explore courtrooms, clerks’ offices, and areas that are usually closed to the public. The second will provide a chance to discover the Victim Assistance Center for Criminal Acts (CAVAC), the JuriPôle, and the CAIJ law library.
Duration of the visit : approximately 45 minutes.
Schedule: doors open at 9:30 a.m., first tour begins at 10 a.m., and the last tour starts at 3:30 p.m.
Meeting place: Montreal Courthouse, 5th floor (10 Saint-Antoine Street E.)
Guided tours of the Court of Appeal
Join us to explore the magnificent Ernest-Cormier building, home of the Quebec Court of Appeal in Montreal.
Guides will take you on a tour of the premises, and you will have the opportunity to meet judges and staff who will share more about the Court’s operations.
Duration of the visit : approximately 45 minutes.
*Schedule: first tour begins at 12:30 p.m., and the last tour starts at 2 p.m.
Meeting place: Court of Appeal of Quebec (100, Notre-Dame Street E.)

Free legal consultations
The Barreau de Montréal, in collaboration with Justice Pro Bono, offers free legal consultations to the public at the Montreal Courthouse. This initiative aims to facilitate access to justice by providing quick and free legal advice.
Volunteer attorneys will be on hand to answer questions from the public, in French and English, as well as in several languages, in a variety of legal fields, including family law, employment law, immigration law, taxation, administrative disputes…

Mock trial (activity in French)
Vivez un procès hors du commun inspiré de la légende de la Chasse-galerie !
Assistez à un procès simulé inédit où le diable et les bûcherons débattront de la question juridique portant sur l’entente intervenue entre eux lors de cette nuit légendaire et ce devant le Tribunal. Ce contrat est-il valide ? Est-ce que les bûcherons seront condamnés à perdre leur âme ou auront-ils gain de cause et pourront reprendre une vie normale ?
Venez le découvrir en direct, lors de deux représentations palpitantes qui mêlent justice et imaginaire québécois.

Cérémonie La Justice a bonne mine (activity in French)
Venez applaudir les grands gagnants du concours d’essai littéraire, sous le thème « Doit-on toujours respecter les règles, même si on les trouve injustes ? », à l’occasion de la cérémonie de remise des prix, animée par Me André d’Orsonnens, co-fondateur de Druide informatique. Les finalistes des catégories primaire et secondaire y prendront la parole pour lire leurs textes primés.

Venez assister à une discussion captivante sur le droit criminel animée par Martine St-Victor, stratège en communications. Elle conversera sur le droit criminel avec l’honorable Myriam Lachance, juge de la Cour d’appel du Québec, qui possède une vaste expérience dans ce champ de pratique.
