Dear Colleagues,

Let me begin by thanking you for turning out to vote in such large numbers, especially at this time.

I am extremely honoured to be your Bâtonnière for the period 2020-2021. The theme of my Battonat is “TOGETHER”. This year more than ever, we need to work together to ensure the Bar of Montreal emerges from these challenging times even stronger.

Before I bring you up to date, I want to share some important information with you.

Court Activity
The situation is evolving rapidly. Several levels of the Courts are in the process of preparing to hear non-urgent matters in the next few weeks. For further details, I invite you to visit our COVID-19 page through the link below. I encourage you to check back regularly for the most up to date information.

You can also follow the Bar of Montreal on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter for real time updates.

Pay attention to prescriptive periods!
Prescriptive periods were temporarily suspended in March 2020. Prescriptive periods will begin to run again after the Courts reopen. Our COVID-19 page will post the details as soon as they are available.

Mental Health
The pandemic we are facing brings with it a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. Do not hesitate to visit the campaign « EN-TETE: pour un juste équilibre » and the videos by psychologist Rose-Marie Charest. You will find many useful resources there. You can access the information at

Committee Participation
As part of my platform, I promised to ensure that our volunteer committees reflected our legal community and its diversity. With the hard work of our permanent employees and the important contribution of your Executive, I am happy to announce this objective was achieved.

If you were not yet placed on a committee, please continue to reapply and don’t be discouraged. Your names were used to create a bank of potential volunteers and we hope to be able to call upon your service in the future.

A Dynamic New Council
Your Bar Council met for the first time on May 20, 2020 through videoconference. Your councilors are extremely enthusiastic about taking on new mandates and working together to ensure we accomplish our goals. Teams have already been struck to study how to promote meaningful, paid stages, the modernization of the justice system, the revision of electoral rules and the reform of legal aid tariffs. I want to assure you that the Barreau de Montréal will continue its efforts to promote an in-depth review of legal aid tariffs and a return to the negotiating table.

I promised open communication. I plan to fulfill that promise by inviting you to contact me directly at your convenience. I am interested in what you have to say and any suggestions you may have.

You may reach me by email at:

I look forward to hearing from you and working together.
