Covid-19 : Information to members

Your Bar is closely tracking measures taken for the District of Montreal and will inform you through its website. As a rule, courts invite you to keep your outings to a minimum and, where possible, use technological means to conduct your affairs. To keep up to date, regularly consult the web page COVID-19: Latest News on the Bar of Montreal’s website. Follow us also on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, for the latest news.

Measures taken at the Bar of Montreal

While our offices are presently closed, all the Bar of Montreal’s team remains available by teleworking. We invite you to contact us by either e-mail, telephone or fax.

ELECTION OF THE COUNCIL 2020-2021: The election will be held as scheduled (see details for nomination of candidates).

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Given present circumstances and in concert with the Barreau du Québec, Council has decided to suspend the application of article 17 of its General Bylaw and to postpone the annual general assembly to a date to be determined.

CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES: All previous announced activities are suspended until further notice. All registrants will be advised by e-mail of the modalities surrounding either the postponement or cancellation of the event.

LAWYERS’ LOUNGE: The Salon des avocats is closed until further notice, but lawyers will be able to access the premises by using their CAIJ card.

Please note: The minutes of hearing in family law matters that were otherwise available at the Salon des avocats, are now available at the counter of room 1.140 of the Montreal courthouse.  Make sure to have your Barreau du Québec membership card in hand to attest that you are a lawyer. Minutes of hearing are kept for 30 days after which they are destroyed.

REFERRAL SERVICE: The service remains open and continues to serve the public who are looking for a lawyer. For the moment, requests are being dealt with only by e-mail.

Don’t’ forget that the Programme d’aide aux membres du Barreau du Québec (PAMBA) is available to help you through these difficult times. It is important that you also take care of yourself!
