1849 – 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The origins<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking back at the history of the Barreau de Montr\u00e9al and the role played by the country’s first lawyers, who were its builders, is like seeing a succession of great moments in Quebec’s social and political history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the origins of the Barreau de Montr\u00e9al date back to 1693, during the first struggles for recognition of lawyers under the French regime. Later, its distant ancestor, the Community of Lawyers, was founded in 1779, and was instrumental in establishing the first rules of discipline and ethics, which have been enriched over the years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Festive anniversary evening<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Barreau de Montr\u00e9al in style, members and the public are invited to a cocktail reception full of surprises at the historic Bonsecours Market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fundraising event will be organized for the benefit of food banks, and you can also bring in non-perishable goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free legal consultations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its festivities, the Barreau de Montr\u00e9al is offering the public free legal consultations at Bonsecours Market on May 31 and June 1, 2024. The aim of this initiative is to facilitate access to justice by offering fast, free legal advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attorneys on hand to answer questions from the public in a variety of legal fields, from family law to employment law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our jurists have talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From May 30 to June 1, 2024<\/strong>, the Bar of Montreal is organizing an exhibition showcasing the artistic talent of our Section’s jurists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artworks will be on display at Bonsecours Market, with free admission for all <\/strong> on May 31 from 12 pm to 7 pm<\/strong> and on June 1 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
