LThe Barreau de Montr\u00e9al is releasing a series of video clips today highlighting compelling stories by victims of fake lawyers and various individuals working with people in vulnerable situations. This initiative is part of its ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the illegal practice of immigration law, initially launched last February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFake immigration lawyers are wreaking havoc in many ways. Unfortunately, we see the consequences of their scams every day and there are no signs of them going away\u201d, said Mtre. Caroline Larouche, B\u00e2tonni\u00e8re de Montr\u00e9al. \u201cIt is therefore essential that we continue our efforts to make people aware of fake lawyers and that is why we are launching this new initiative today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Available in five languages (French, English, Spanish, Creole and Arabic), the video clips present the stories of courageous victims and provide advice by immigration lawyers and others directly involved with victims to prevent people from falling into the trap of fake lawyers. Through this new tool, the Barreau de Montr\u00e9al hopes that individuals who can relate to the stories will become aware of the serious consequences these scams can have and react proactively to protect themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI believe that we can protect ourselves by being more informed. That is the main goal of this campaign: to make the public aware of the illegal practice of immigration law and give people tools to help put a stop to it, thus protecting those who need help with immigration\u201d, Mtre. Larouche added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
