Chicago, IL

Theme of the symposium: Comprehensive Trade Agreements and the Modernized NAFTA
Scientific and tourist program: June 14 and 15, 2018, in Chicago

More than 20 years after its signature, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) today is experiencing an important phase in its development. In forcing the NAFTA parties to renegotiate the agreement, the Trump administration also created the opportunity to modernize it, to re-evaluate its legacy and to discuss an alternative model.

Officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico abandoned a December 2017 target to wrap up talks to revamp NAFTA and set the new target date to the end of March 2018. What issues can we expect will be addressed in the modernized NAFTA?

Organized jointly with the Chicago Bar Association, this academic tourism trip to Chicago is a unique chance to complete more than 10 hours of Continuing Legal Education* by experienced lawyers from both sides of the border who will take a critical look at the proposals for modernization of NAFTA. On the menu you can also expect promising networking nights, all while discovering the spectacular Windy City!
