Debating competition


2018 EDITION

The purpose of the Debating Competition is to encourage Francophone and Anglophone College (CEGEP) students of the Montreal District to publicly debate a position on controversial and legal issues. The theme for the 29th edition of the contest is:

Invoking the notwithstanding clause to avoid the application of the Jordan ruling. For or Against ?

The contest is divided into three parts:

  • Internal qualifications in each participating CEGEP.
  • Semi-finals between the selected teams from each par ticipating CEGEP on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in the afternoon, in the Jules-Deschênes Room (5.15) of the Montreal Courthouse.
  • Final between the two teams who accumulated the most points in the semi-finals, followed by the award ceremony, on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 8 p.m. in the Jules-Deschênes Room (5.15) of the Montreal Courthouse.

PRIZES TO BE WON:

  • $ 500 and Antidote, the indispensable writing assistance software suite from Druide informatique, to each member of the winning team.
  • $ 250 and the Antidote, the indispensable writing assistance software suite from Druide informatique, to each member of the runner-up team.
  • $ 150 and a copy of the Grand Druide des synonymes et des antonymes to the two best speakers who are not in the final.

Registration deadline : March 5, 2018 at 5 P.M.
Semi-finals and final :  March 20, 2018
