Debating competition


On March 20, 2018, seven Francophone and Anglophone College (CEGEP) students took part in the 29th edition of the Debating Competition, whose purpose is to encourage students to publicly defend a position on a controversial legal issue in the news.

The theme selected for the contest was:
Invoking the notwithstanding clause to avoid the application of the Jordan ruling. FOR or AGAINST?

The jury for the final, presided by the Honourable Sophie Bourque announced Ms. Lara Itani and Ms. Ingrid Mavoli from Collège Stanislas winners of the 29th edition of the Debating Competition. The winners each received $500 and a copy of the software reference tool Antidote, while the finalists, Ms. Jade Normandeau and Ms. Louise Toutée from Collège de Maisonneuve, each received $250 and a copy of Antidote. Lastly, the two best speakers on the teams that did not make it to the final, namely Ms. Jasmine Razavi from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf and Mr. Alexandre Tirziu from Collège international Marie de France, were awarded $150 and a copy of the Grand Druide reference for synonyms. They were selected by the jury for the semi-finals, presided by Mtre André d'Orsonnens.
