2013-2014 Merit – Mtre Denise Boulet

Mtre Denise Boulet – Mtre Denise Boulet held the office of Chair of the Legal Consultations Committee for 10 years, from 2003 to 2013, while participating actively in the VISEZ DROIT conferences. An excellent ambassador of the profession, Mtre Boulet is also a member of the Ethics and Image Committee.

After earning a bachelor of teaching degree, Denise Boulet turned to the study of law.  Less than thrilled about her courses in tax law and accounting, she nevertheless began her legal career as a student, articled and worked as young lawyer for a firm of tax specialists before focusing on civil litigation. Finding that opportunities to plead were in short supply, she turned to youth protection, where the large volume of cases enabled her to refine her pleading skills.

Wanting to broaden her horizon while learning more about substantial issues, Denise registered for a master’s degree in law and health policy at the Université de Sherbrooke, discovering medical and hospital liability, her main field of practice since 1996, along the way. Later, Denise developed the course on Elder Law at the Université de Sherbrooke, which she has taught since 2003. In 2011, she participated in the founding of the Institut de planification des soins and since then, she served as director of this not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to contribute to the advancement of the education of the general public and organizations concerned with the planning of health care, advance health care directives and elder law. Happy to be able to work on several aspects of law practice, Denise has taught responsibility and human rights at the École du Barreau and more recently, civil liability at UQAM. She considers herself privileged to be able to represent and support victims of civil faults, as well as to help the elderly and guide them through the subtleties and complexities of the legal system.

It was an ad in the Journal du Barreau in the late 90s that brought Denise Boulet to the Bar of Montreal. Starting with the second Salon VISEZ DROIT, Denise offered free legal consultations and lectures, and 17 years later, this woman of action and field work is still at it, energized and motivated by contact with the public. Denise wishes to encourage her colleagues to become involved with the Bar, not only because it makes a small contribution to a better world, but also because what you get in return for such participation far exceeds the time and effort put in.

Deeply touched by this award, Mtre Denise Boulet considers that she has learned much from the exceptional members of the Bar of Montreal team and the volunteers who have crossed her path, and every day, she benefits personally from the good fortune she has had in meeting them.
