Conciliation - Legal aid


CONCILIATION OF LEGAL AID ACCOUNTS

Lawyers may sometimes be unhappy with the fees received from a legal aid agency. An account conciliation process is available for such instances. A conciliator is designated by the bâtonnier when the amount is contested by a lawyer from the Montreal section.

TO REGISTER AN ACCOUNT FOR CONCILIATION

Before seeking conciliation, be sure you have sent the Commission des services juridiques (CSJ) all relevant documents (records of proceedings, etc.). The CSJ will thus determine the amount you are entitled to, based on the applicable rate.

If the amount so determined does not satisfy you, you can then start the conciliation process by emailing or mailing the duly completed formulaire de demande de conciliation accompanied by the statement of account issued by the CSJ (this can be downloaded from you account at https://www.csj.qc.ca/pratique/fvilogin.aspx) to the CSJ and The Bar of Montreal, at the following addresses:
