Mentoring capsule

Many mentors wish to engage in a mentoring process but are afraid of the how much time they will have to invest in it. The mentoring relationship (which lasts on average 6 months) requires dynamic participation by both parties but it is the quality of what is shared – rather than the quantity of time devoted to it – that matters most.

It is possible to be available and flexible while focusing on simple opportunities that don’t require a substantial investment of time:

  • Invite your mentoree to accompany you in a networking activity;
  • Choose a joint educational activity that will be of interest to both of you;
  • Go out for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee from time to time;
  • Arrange periodic 15-minute telephone meetings for regular support;
  • A regular e-mail correspondence to get the latest news .
