This event provides an opportunity to learn more about the new Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Criminal Matters that will come into force on January 1, 2019.

Participants will also be able to refresh their knowledge of, or become acquainted with, best practices and the expectations of the Court of Appeal in criminal and penal matters.

The Honourable Nicole Duval-Hesler, Chief Justice of Quebec, and the Honourable François Doyon will present the main new provisions of the updated Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Criminal Matters. They will also take the opportunity to discuss the following subjects :

  • inadequate assistance from the trial counsel;
  • the upcoming new rules in penal matters;
  • applications for release;
  • motions presented pursuant to section 680 Cr. C.;
  • the practical consequences of the judgment R. c. Piazza, 2018 QCCA 948.

Mtre Bertrand Gervais, Clerk of Appeals, will serve as moderator and present several tools of interest that are available on the Court website.
