Discussion and networking* organized by the Ethnocultural Diversity Committee of the Bar of Montreal – Lawyers Financial

Deadline for cancellations with reimbursement: November 22, 2017

The Quebec government launched a consultation this fall on systemic discrimination and racism. In Quebec, the Act respecting equal access to employment in public bodies requires some organizations to have an equal access employment program. The Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms provides that “the object of an affirmative action program is to remedy the situation of persons belonging to groups discriminated against in employment”.

In this context, the Committee on Ethnocultural Diversity invites Bar of Montreal members to an open and friendly discussion on diversity and employability in the legal profession in Montreal, hosted by Mrs. Lisa Marie Gervais, journalist at Le Devoir. Mtres Sau Mei Chiu (Lawyer and Family Mediator, Ouellet, Nadon et Associées), Lucie Lamarche (Full Professor, Département des sciences juridiques, UQÀM) and Eric Oliver (Partner and Head of Litigation, Municonseil) will exchange differing views on the issue of positive discrimination as a concrete means of changing the system. An exchange with the audience will follow in order to share stories and experiences.

*Complimentary appetizers will be served.

*Training by a recognized provider for the purposes of mandatory continuing education – 1.5 hour.
An attestation of attendance will be emailed after the activity.
